Designing, dining out and balancing a successful home and work life…The designer shares her schedule with us.
7:00 A.M
Hearing my kids next door is my alarm clock! Being two very dynamic boys of 3 and 5 years old they like to play loud as soon as they wake up. I would love to be able to do some early morning meditation before getting out of bed…but I guess this will have to wait until they are grown up! I jump into my gym outfit, wash my face and have breakfast with my kids and husband, if he is not traveling. I love to have a large green tea and 3 or 4 pieces of bread with butter and jam. Not the healthiest breakfast I know but that’s the one I love and helps me start my day right.
8:00 A.M.
Having dropped my kids off at the school bus I leave the house to have my workout session of either Yoga or Pilates. When I come back from the gym, I have my shower and then start working in my showroom from home. My morning work routine usually includes; catching up on emails, organizing my weekly and monthly schedule, planning trips to visit my workshop in Vietnam, checking the production progress of my current collection, organizing events such as fashion shows and boutique shopping fairs or doing my accounting, which is my least favourite thing to do! I also focus my time on designing future collections, making technical drawings that I send to the workshop who then make the patterns and samples, which we refine until we have the precise garment that I have in my mind. I love choosing fabrics where I often find my inspiration, most notably from the Liberty of London print or from Paris fabric suppliers who I sometimes visit. With comfort and quality utmost in my mind, I am also planning to go to India to search for new prints and cotton voile fabrics.
12:30 P.M.
Each day it can differ but usually I stop for lunch around 12:30 or 1pm, when I typically eat a healthy salad at home followed by a coffee and always a piece of dark chocolate. Some days I meet a friend for lunch where I like going to House of Anli in Tanglin Mall or PS Café in Dempsey; both are very close to my show room. After lunch I am back to work or at a meeting until it’s time to pick the boys up.
3:45 P.M.
I always aim to be home in time for when the school bus arrives. I love catching my kids at this time of the day and staying with them during their snack time, while they tell me about their day at school. I then take them to their after school activities like tennis, swimming or dance and I head back to my desk. Although, once a week I do go to my favorite salon, Trimmings in Dempsey Hill for a mani-pedi and once a month I spoil myself with a facial at the Clarins spa in Wheelock.
7:00 P.M.
I usually finish work around 7pm then I take care of my boys by reading them a story and giving them a relaxing massage after bath time before they sleep.
8:00 P.M.
Once my husband returns home from work it is dinnertime. We often have dinner out two or three times a week with friends or sometimes I have networking events I need to attend. If we stay at home for dinner, we eat light, mostly with steamed vegetables and a piece of cheese. And every Monday night I indulge in a lifelong passion where I attend a dance class.
9:00 P.M.
If I don’t go out in the evening, I love going to sleep early. If my husband is travelling, I either go back to my computer to work if needed or I jump into my bed around 9pm with a good book and then all lights are off at 10pm. During the week I usually feel very tired and it doesn’t take me long before I slowly drift off to sleep.
